Wayne Rooney Slams Bruno Fernandes for Failing to Take Responsibility

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has strongly criticised captain Bruno Fernandes for failing to take responsibility during the team’s dramatic 3-2 Champions League victory over AS Roma.

Despite United’s incredible comeback at Old Trafford, Rooney was unhappy with Fernandes’ defensive performance during the first half.

Rooney publicly criticises Bruno Fernandes

Speaking on Amazon Prime during half-time, Rooney blamed Fernandes for failing to support Diogo Dalot before Roma’s opening goal.

The former United striker explained that when Dalot moved forward, Bruno should have dropped back to cover his position.

“You’re the captain of the football club, run back and take responsibility,” Rooney said.

Rooney also insisted that every player must help their teammates, even when it means playing outside their usual position.

Rooney unhappy with Man Utd’s attitude

Rooney’s criticism was not limited to Fernandes.

He also questioned United’s lack of passion, aggression and teamwork after Roma took a 2-0 lead within just 17 minutes.

The former England captain believed the players were not showing enough fight during a difficult period for the club.

Bruno helps Man Utd complete incredible comeback

However, Manchester United produced a completely different performance after half-time.

Fernandes started the comeback with a penalty before Matheus Cunha scored twice in the closing minutes to secure a stunning 3-2 victory.

The win ended United’s nine-match winless run and gave Michael Carrick a much-needed result.

After the final whistle, Rooney praised the team’s improved attitude and recognised Fernandes’ passion during the second half.

Although Bruno helped United secure an important victory, Rooney’s criticism highlighted the defensive responsibility expected from the club captain.
