Julián Álvarez, 26-year-old, has reportedly lost patience after failing to speak with his manager, Diego Pablo Simeone, about his desire to leave Atlético Madrid. The Argentine forward still wants to join FC Barcelona, a plan he already made clear during the recent World Cup. After arriving at the training ground and discovering that neither Simeone nor club CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín was there, Álvarez reportedly told club staff that they should no longer count on him.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Álvarez believes Simeone did not have the courage to face the situation and speak directly with him, despite knowing that the striker wanted a meeting to find a solution over his future. Álvarez was especially surprised that Simeone travelled to Ibiza for a two-day holiday, as it was already known that the player would return today and wanted to hold talks with him.
Álvarez is also unhappy with Gil Marín, another important figure who could help solve the situation. However, the Atlético CEO was also on holiday and unavailable to speak with him. As Mundo Deportivo previously reported, the Argentine wanted to deal with the issue through dialogue, but he feels he has not been given that opportunity.
As a result, Julián has reportedly told people at the training ground that his patience has finally run out and that there will now be consequences. “Don’t count on me,” was one of his clearest messages. He also reportedly made it clear that he is ready to take a firm stand against the club.
Julián wants to leave Atlético for Barcelona this summer
Álvarez is expected to take this stronger position from next Wednesday, when Simeone is scheduled to return and lead Atlético’s training sessions again. At that point, “Cholo” will have the chance to hear directly what the striker wants.
Álvarez claims Atlético have promised him since February that they would allow him to leave this summer. The Argentine has now completely lost patience and is prepared to push hard for a transfer to Barcelona.
